ABOUT

Dr. Timothy Scott Rampey is a retired psychology professor. He is also a dedicated Bible teacher and lecturer who has taught adult classes and seminars in churches in the U.S. and overseas for four decades.  His passion for biblical history and archaeology led him to the Middle East beginning in the 1990s, and since that time he has made numerous trips to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel as a tour guide for friends, students, and anyone else with a strong desire to understand the Bible better.

Dr. Rampey is a meticulous researcher who was motivated to investigate antidepressant drug studies because of his interest in the intersection of medicine and psychology. Using the Freedom of Information Act and other data, he was shocked by the deception and dishonesty which characterized those studies. That information later persuaded him to write America Fooled: The Truth about Antidepressants, Antipsychotics and How We've Been Deceived (2006) published under his first and middle names. He has been a frequent guest on radio talk shows and has been interviewed as a resource expert for several documentary films dealing with mental health and antidepressants.  In 2007 he was a recipient of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) Human Rights Recognition Award for the material presented in this book.

Dr. Rampey's experience in researching drug studies was essentially repeated when he began investigating some of the studies on homosexuality that made national news and consequently entered the research reported in psychology textbooks. He was amazed at how the fraudulent studies and disingenuous conclusions could be accepted as truth. He understood the public being fooled, as most do not have knowledge of research design issues, but the fact that so many of those studies made it into college textbooks was disheartening and led to his lectures on that issue. The four lectures on homosexuality on this website are filled with information that very few Christians or non-Christians have ever heard. Most Americans have been deceived about what the best quality research studies have actually found. This is much related to a comment found on the dust jacket of America Fooled: "His primary academic concern is the inability of college graduates to critique research."

His series of over 30 videos entitled "Can You Believe the Bible?" (linked to this website) examines whether or not the Bible can really be believed. These lectures consider the Bible and medicine, the Bible and good mental health, the Bible and marital satisfaction research,  the Bible and physics, the Bible and economics, the Bible and philosophy, and the Bible compared with several other disciplines as well. Dr. Rampey aims to put the Bible to the test against the research in the hard sciences as well as the behavioral and social sciences.

Since much of his life requires time spent sitting at a desk, for a change of routine Dr. Rampey clears land and builds houses. He has enjoyed construction and building all of his life, and construction was his primary source of income during his college years. Following their marriage in 1975, Dr. Rampey and his wife Nita investigated the possibility of mission work in the Amazon region of Brazil and spent time with the Wycliffe Bible Translators where Dr. Rampey did construction work. He has also been involved in builds for Habitat for Humanity and other volunteer construction efforts in the United States and Mexico.
