Can You Believe the Bible?
This series of over 30 videos examines whether or not the Bible can really be believed. As we consider the Bible and medicine, the Bible and physics, the Bible and economics, the Bible and philosophy, and a host of other fields of research, we want to put the Bible to the test.
If the Bible is from God, then we should practice His commands to “test everything and hold on to the good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). The problem is, however (as psychological experiments have consistently found), that though most people would say they themselves are very objective and rational and not easily influenced, that is simply not the case. Subjective experiences and emotions, not an objective assessment of data, lead most people to conclusions that may not reflect reality at all.
What do you believe about the Bible? Is it perhaps based on what you heard a relative say? Or what you saw on an A&E or History Channel program? If so,
then you have probably been badly duped. It makes a lot more sense to try and pass a CPA exam without ever studying accounting or to try and pass a bar exam without ever studying law than to have definite opinions about heaven and hell, who Jesus was or was not, or whether the Bible can be believed than it does to come to conclusions without doing some careful assessment of the relevant information.
I would ask you to do what few people will ever do—conduct a fair and thorough investigation of the Bible. Examine the evidence. The fact that you are here may suggest you really are a unique person. In case you are that exceptional person . . . thank you. I believe (if your experience is typical) you will be very surprised by what you learn.
